Throttle position sensor

I've recently changed the throttle position sensor as it came up as a fault on a diagnostics test. Once changed it had no effect the car was still the same, the mechanic said that I should disconnect the battery for about an hour which should reset the ECU and hopefully the new sensor do its job. The problem is that last time my battery went flat I lost all the remote central locking. Would disconnecting the battery have the same effect and is it necessary to re-set the ECU just because you fitted a new sensor? What are the chances that the error is not actually the right error, the throttle positiopn sensor error only came up after a couple of times on the test, so i'm thinking it could be something else around that area maybe idle position sensor? mass meter?
Any thoughts?

what are the symptoms of your problem?

I think the ECU will have to relearn the signals given by a new sensor. Cars can run badly for a while after resetting the ECU as they have to learn again. Not had a prob with the Alfa, but my wifes old cinquecento used to idle really badly for a couple of minutes after disconnecting the battery. It would also lack a bit of power (eh !! ?? Power ????) for about 20 miles driving.

Maybe your ECU still has to sort itself out ???
