Make a Silverstone splitter 4 just over £10!!!

Im back anyone miss me?
Did'nt think so, call me a tight b*****d, but as mutch as I realy wanted a silverstone splitter, could always find other things 2 spend £150 on.
Found this at local hardwere shop...51x51x2435mm 1mm plastic angle £7.65 ...made a template of bottom of bumper on plywood..made a fill in piece 4 middle slot out of, u gessed MDF shaped 2 slot sanded, several coats of fiberglass resin 2 seal..bent plastic angle 2 shape round template had 2 cut thin triangles 2 allow angle 2 bend care was taken with this as these were 'welded' up with a soldering iron , when finished trim ends +cut as silverstone splitter tapers off at ends, cut center hole or not...line up mdf center filler bond + screw , bit of filler ,rub down plastic 2 'key' spray with plastic primer ,top coat in colour of choice ...fit + admire
this will only work as a "innie" retracted splitter MK 2 "outie" being worked on.... wink

will try posting photos soon hopefully b4 crimbo ,looks exactly same as silverstone splitter but wont make U cry if U trim it out on a curb or mutt....where can I get spray paint 4 alfa??? halfords dont do alfa colours got a colour as close 2.

Apparenty some Halfords have the facility to colour match paints.

A set or Nissan Bluebird rear quarter vents slapped on the side and then you might even have the Unicorse (1995) splitter!! That would make Wrinx sooooooooooooooooooo jealous!!!!

Anyone know how to make moulds for fibreglassing?

Mmm, this is one of my (many) next projects, to make a Unicorse splitter, thought about a few ways to do it but this is interesting

I was planning to make a wooden (mdf) mould and fibre glass over. Soldering or "welding" plastic in my experience is ok but it breaks after time, hope it works ok for ya wink

was going 2build mould 2 make silverstone "outie" as MK2 version but this sounds interesting mould easy make in wood do a search on net? .

i had a mate a few years ago a joiner who when i told him that byou could make a splitter from almost any thing he did a dtm 155 on a croma turbo misunderstood me a bit but it looked good. But as a model builder if you are going to coat in fiberglass i would use balsa and balsa spars or 6mm ply or even styra foam dipending on how light and how strong you want it. The balsa method can be quite fast if you have ever used it before but a bit more costly but most model shops sell med & thick super glue and 5 minute epoxy which speeds things up a bit. Also if you manage to make a bute i would take a negative copy of this as i am sure if you can be bothered could sell them. As there is sum utter poo out there at poo prices.

Just got hold of some side vents so the Unicorse "style" splitter is one step nearer..........don't hold ya breath though

To echo prievious post,my thoughts was 2 use pollystyrene sheet as in jabalight insulation, can be bought in sheets thickness up 2 150mm from diy/builders mearchants. cut this 2 size/shape,lay up with fiberglass 2 good thickness,get a good finish with filler,if any good take a mould from that. wink
