I'm considering supercharging my TS, having had many indepth emails with Hoygaard..
He used an Eaton M45, built to Merc spec.
I have just got my grubby mits on an Eaton M45 also
from a mini cooper S. This is built to BMW spec :sick: eek!
But is actually built by Eaton in the states..
The difference between the Merc & BMW version we have found so far is:
Merc: Has magnetic clutch - so does not run at idle. No built in valve
BMW: Has built in bypass valve, so no need to add a valve between the charger & the throttle body/intercooler. No clutch, but valve is fully open at idle.
Unsure on charger pulley differences yet...
but as these both came off stock engines, the merc crank pulley is a v similar size to the TS one, but the mini crank pulley is all of 2.5" diam. Well, it's a small car wink So i've got to start doing the calcs to get the right size pulley on the charger to spin at the correct rpm...
Hoygaard is experiencing pinging at just over 5k rpm - but is running a stock ECU (no remap, etc) and is investigating running a 5th injector - but unsure how the plastic variable length manifold will take to having petrol run through it - so a cast one would be much better.
Then there is the possibility of just getting the ECU remapped - would that alone be able to provide enough fuel at higher revs??
Or would fitting bigger injectors, and a piggy back ECU - Chapstar, Unichip, etc be the work around?
This is a project for next spring for me, so until I really progress much further I don't know much more......
