Just need to share this one. On the journey to work today, I noticed a faint smell of petrol, it was not nice, but I soldiered on to work. On getting there I popped the bonnet and found that one of the fuel lines across the top of the engine had split and was p155ing petrol all over the engine. I very nearly wet myself!
You're right. I'm thinking about replacing the fuel hoses into and out of the fuel rail as they look a bit funky. Problem is I have to remove the air chamber on the 8v to get access and I can't be bothered 'cos it's too cold now.
I did have a car catch fire before. Twice actually.
The first was one of my MG Metros (Wooooooooooo !!!). A nylon shopping bag I had driven over had been sucked up by the huge vacuum created by the awesome speed and power, and got wedge between the bulkhead and exhaust manifold. I stopped at traffic lights to see all this smoke belching out from under the bonnet. It also burnt through the fuel hose from the pump which also sits at the back of the A class engine.
The second (actually this was the first) was when me and my mate were lobbing bangers out the car window on Guy Fawkes night. Kinda drive by shooting stylee. I hit the door frame, it bounced back and exploded under the seat. The car filled up with smoke Cheech and Chong style. My dad was well impressed with the hole in the carpet of his Strada 105TC. I didn't get a shot of it again
Not sure thats a good idea Ralf, I ordered the genuine bits and three hoses came, all the same length but only one long enough for their respective bits!!! The "aftermarket" stuff I bought was more reinforced but doesn't seem to like the bends it has been made to perform hence the perishing!
If you get the right pipes and they fit can you post the numbers please
Get some 7.6mm fuel injection hose from
halfrauds, its the right size for the
V6,more than likely the Twinnys too .
It comes in metre lengths,so can cut to
size,only costs about 6-7 quid,and is
doing a superb job on mine right now.
Yeah I got high pressure fuel hose from my local car place. It bends fine and I used it to replace the metal pipes under the car at the bulkhead as they had perished. It's doing fine and it was also cheaper than Halfords
