My car hates me!

Okay guys, my car is rebelling!

I threatened it with being sold, and it has developed a bad noise.

Now then, it has been there since the timing belts etc were replaced. At this time the oil was changed and all the normal serious stuff was done too.

Now when cold the oil pressure shows 6 bar,

When it gets hot, instead of the normal 4 bar it shows 2!

And also as the oil temp gets up above about 50 degrees, the engine starts to knock in a regular ticking knocking types way. Rev it above 2000rpm or so and it goes away.

Now a couple of options,

1. New 10w 40 synthetic oil instead of the previous 15w40 semi synth

2. Buggered engine main bearings

3. The damned car hates me!

Any other options?

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

It could be worn main bearings but before you commit yourself try changing the oil back to the thicker grade

Thinner oil can cause problems on high mileage cars

Btw my V6 makes a similar noise on tickover very faintly but it`s been doing it for ages i put it down to the alternator belt being too tight

Btw maybe it doesnt want to be sold and is seeking revenge You don`t call it Christine do you

Oil pump possibly,
Recently changed my oil to 10w 40
semi synth from a thicker oil.
Made no difference to pressure but
it did help cool the engine down a
couple of degrees during normal

106k on mine btw.

It has been teasing me, the little light that makes the oil pressure guage glow at night stopped glowing about march and started to work again tonight. Funny that.

I feel an oil change coming on!
