I have the same thing wrong with my car...its going into a garage (!?!) to be fixed next week...(a new experience for my 155 as I don't have any time just now). As well as wearing at the track rod end, wear occurs at the rack knuckle end, and according to the guy at my local alfa specialists its not uncommon on the 155. He also said it can be a bit of a mare of a job for the home mech. Which further convinced me to get somone else to do it. He wasn't angling for business as he has 2 mechs on holiday and I've had to wait 3 weeks B4 he can take it in.
Jack up the car, and rock the wheel on its left right axis..if yours is like mine you'll probably see some movement in the track rod end ball joint and a clunk/movement from inboard near the rack. (check rack bushes for wear also) If you can see clear movement and hear a clunk, then sounds like you have the same fault as mine...
Mine has also started suffering from torque steer and clunks when I turn to the left/right, which I suspect may be strut bearings, but could be coming from the steering also. I'll get the steering fixed and if it goes away, fine. If not, off with the struts at a later date (could do with new front shocks anyway).
