I don't now if my 155 is a 1.7 or a 1.8!

Hi! I recently purchesed a alfa 155, I always think yhat it was a 1.8 TS 8v, but recently I looked at rhe documents of the car and its cc is 1749! How can I now for shure? And what is the base equipment of the alfa 155 1.7?

the closest there is to 1949cc is 1929 for the 2.0TD, have a look in the technical spec under the technical articals of this site, sure its not 1749 which would make it the 1.7 TS 8V.

The 1.8litre 8valve is 1773cc.
Just because it's the 1.7, don't think it's rubbish. Maximum torque on your engine is delivered at 3000rpm as opposed to 5000 for the 1.8. This means you will accelerate better from lower down. The 1.8 is hard work to keep on the boil.

The 1.8 16v has a displacement of 1747cc which when I was at school would be rounded down to 1.7 since it is near to 1.7 than 1.8. Never really understood why it was badged a 1.8

Thats how it still works as far as i know

My old hyundai was 1468cc thus badged as a 1.5.

But we are talking about Alfas,and they're a
different breed of cars to the rest

This engine size was always know as the '1750' in previous incarnations. Probably just a marketing thing.
