mornin lads!i've noticed over the last week or two that my engine in my 2.0 16v has started to get noisier?the normal diesel start up as ususl, but when driving under 30mph the noise starts again?,if i accelerate the noise dissappears?.also when at idle it sounds very 'tappety'?any suggestions/solutions/prices/garages are welcome!answers on a postcard to>>>>>>>>>>>> >>
I noticed your diesel noise on startup the other week Col.
Could be the gearbox rattling below 30 m8. You have probably heard mine, its the reverse idle actuator come loose (whatever that is!). It is noticeable at idle when the clutch pedal is up, but it is rattly at low speeds too.
Check it does it with the clutch up and down to see if its the gearbox!
I dont know whether the 155 has a similar problem to the Boxer engined 145's as far as this goes.
Hey collywobble - don't do any more postings ever - you're on post 155!!
Sound like variator symptoms, but I couldn't believe how quiet my engine got for the new tensioners when I had the belts done! Unfortunately, the tensioners are quite pricey - over £150 for all of them I think!
just to update you all-i've now had new variator fitted, all tappets renewed, new tensioner and new cambelt,oh and a full service.the result?-a 'new' car!no 'diesel' noise at all and i've got all the power back!the cost??-well-have a guess??!!
