Engine cutting out

Hi guys!

question on behalf of a mate of mine in Switzerland: he's got a 146 Ti (2.0 16V twinny) that recently got a new engine fitted because he blew up the one that came with the car. Which puts his claim that the redline is there to be used in perspective...
But anyway, with the new engine he experiences the following problem. Sometimes, when he's doing a very fast and long righthander, the engines cuts out or won't pick up while accelerating out of the turn. It doesn't happen on short bends, lefthanders, or if he drives sensibly (and who would want to do THAT!!). His dealer is completely stumped. They even fitted a new fuel pump, with no effect whatsoever.
We're open to suggestions...

have they REALY fitted a new pump..???????
lancias use to do the same thing and its caused by a split pick up pipe in the pump when you go round a bend the fuel slopps away from the pipe and it sucks air in...does it still do it with a FULL tank of fuel.???
