I am trying to pull off my steering wheel, but it
seems like there is somekind of a lock on??
the nut is off, and i can pull it a little out.
It's a 2.0 16v, and the wheel is a momo wood wheel. please help.
I assume that you have a widebody 16V steering wheel fitted with an airbag. If so, you must undo the three screws at the back of the steering wheel to take off the front cover. Once you've done so, you can unscrew the main nut that secures the steering wheel onto the splined steering column shaft.
Ok, here's where the tricky part is.. you must pull off the steering wheel from the shaft since it is an interference fit. Just pull on it as hard as you can but beware that when the steering wheel comes off it will be travelling at high speed and straight towards you face so.. to avoid injuries you should screw back on the main nut by three to four turns so that it is engaged but there is still clearance for you to pull off the steering wheel.
Hope it all goes well.
PS You should disconnect the battery before you mess around with the airbag charge!!
If it IS an airbag wheel, you should even disconnect the battery for a day to be on the safe side. Remember: A spark could trigger the air generator. Donīt want to scare you but did you ever see an airbag exploding? These pyrotechnics have enormous power.
About the pulling TAZ is right: You have to use some force.
I removed a steering wheel some years ago, the manual said just pull! About an hour later and some heavy persuasion with a hammer it came off eek! Wouldn't fancy that now with an airbag eek! eek! Good luck.
