Hurray! it's off. What a **** on that was too! The good news is that the head doesn't appear to be damaged.. the gasket blew out over the water way. The bad news is that it looks to have snapped the belt before - there are dints in the pistons!! Though I've been assured that it isn't really a problem (phew).
Back to the old valves thing.. is it really nescessary to replace all of the valves? I've been told they have a habit of the head falling off them so it's wise to do. None of them appear damaged, can I just check them & refit, only replacing any out of spec ones? I'm guessing if the belt has gone before.. the valves have been replaced - but seeing as they didn't replace the bolts they may have just hammered them straight..
At the moment, it looks like it's going to be put back together as standard rather than tuned etc. Plans are a changing.
