Evening everyone, got a problem with my erractic speedo which I hope someone can help me with. My speedo occasionaly works, sometimes on starting the engine the needle will flick round, making me presume the drive to the speedo is electronic, is this correct? Either way, where abouts in the engine bay does the speedo drive from?
I’ve had probs with electronic speedos a few times. The latest was on my former 33 on which the pickup inside the differential had leaked in some oil. This made the speedo work only temporary. On an old Guilietta Nuovo (1984) it made funny noises and jumped; this I fixed by dismantling it and carefully oiled with VD40 and some silicone grease on the nylon wheels.
The 3rd was a mere Lancia Prima which was somewhat optimistic; this I let be, I though it needed it (well, it was a 1,6IE 108 HP and not sluggish). But the Tachometer didn’t work when I bought it and I had it professionally repaired; but afterwards it was likewise optimistic so deciding what speed I was doing was a bit tricky.
Hope one of my experiences can be of some help.
Yes, I think the speedo is electronic. I had a similar problem with my 93 Lancia Dedra. It plugged to the top of the gearbox, and used a plastic helical bit to pick up the speed from. Replaced this plastic bit and problem fixed.
I do not know if it is the same position on the gbox for the 155 though
