V6 155's have a normal throttle cable, the reason is because of the ECU's (c.1995-ish) at the time. Only certain ones have the "self diagnosis" feature. It has since ben disconitinued.

Re: Fault Code List

Since I had the engine overhauled in my 155, the injector light has been on. My mechanic said he plugged it into the diagnostic computer and it shows no faults. So I unplugged the ecu in the dash on my 155 last night to see if it would reset itself, and left it unplugged till this morning, then I plugged it in. I started the car and the injector light went out instantly, then within 2 seconds it turned on again. So there is obviously a fault. Now my car doesn't allow you check the fault with the led on the dash and the accelerator pedal as its a 2.0 16v, so I am gonna have to connect an LED to the ecu.

I just wanted to know exactly how you connect an LED to the ecu, cause I cant see any numbers on it, so how do you know which is pin 8? And are you referring to the ecu behind the dash on the passenger side? And do you connect it with the wiring harness unplugged, cause you can't get to the pins without unplugging the harness.

Re: Fault Code List

yes I refer to the ECU behind the dash on the passenger side.
if you look at the connector real good you can see at the begin and end of every row pins a number...
of you look at the connecor to the side wich connects to the ECU its the lower row and then the 8th pin from the right (at least: this is what I can remember from last time )
if you need more info just ask

Re: Fault Code List

Thanx Joep, but I still can't seem to get this fault reading thing to work.

I forgot to mention earlier that since the injector light has been on, the car has been idling very roughly, it actually sounds like it is misfiring slightly. But once you rev it, it is perfect, and it goes like the clappers.
So any ideas what it might be?

Back to the fault code reading, I connected a 12V test lamp which has a 1.2Watt lamp in it to pin 8 on the ECU and the other end to the 12V+.
Nothing, no flashing, no nothing. Then I took my digital tester and put it on to resistor mode, set it to 1k ohm, put the one wire to pin 8 and the other to 12V+ - it gives a fixed reading, and does not fluctuate, so the ECU can't be transmitting a fault code, cause then the reading would fluctuate, immitating a flashing light.

Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Fault Code List

when you had your digital tester connected, did you push the gas pedal all the way to the floor (full throttle) 5 times?
if you did that, then the ECU will show the fault code via pin 8...

Re: Fault Code List

I have just had to take the head off my 155, valves meeting pistons. Anyway, job complete and car goes great except that the injector light stays on and the idle is irratic, also the revs do not always drop as they should ! The light was not on when I took the engine apart !!
Checked all the connections.
I have read thru the Thread and nobody seems to have cracked the problem, is this correct ?
I hate this kind of problem !!

Madness Re: Fault Code List

Hi! How do I get the codes on my 1994 155 1,8 TS? There is no dash light for the ECU, so although there's loads of stuff on the net about Motronic codes I can't get them.

I've just read the other threads about pin 8, so I guess I've got the answer.

Re: Fault Code List

on my `95 155 1.7 everything works fine

this 5-time-hit-the-pedal testing works only on some versions of bosch motronic ECU`s.
On the later versions (like 16v engines) this feature is removed.
On erlier versions there is no check engine lamp, but you can still test it by attaching wires&lamp to ecu.

Re: Fault Code List

I just tried it on a 95/96 V6 and it was the injector light that flashed rather than the code light.

It did seem to give the 4 pause 4 pause 4 pause though, so I assume everything is OK.

Just something to throw in to confuse the V6 working or not working issue.

don't think it works on that model. I know it doesn't work on my '95 1.8 8v TS.

Are you thinking of the way the manual tells you how to input the key code via the accel pedalif the key batt should go flat?

Re: Fault Code List

I think I can confirm that this does not work on any car with the Motronic 1.5.5 ECU like the 1.6 TS.

Re: Fault Code List

Works on my '96 V6 with code, didn't work on a '95 V6 without code that I once got my paws on.

Very different ECU, but on my 164 I had, all that was needed was a small bulb and a push switch to poll the errors. I'll have a dog on the wiring info and see if I can find anytting helpful.

Re: Fault Code List

If it was the FCR code - 9 is the crank angle sensor.

Tip: Haynes Fault Codes
This book is brilliant and has listed how to diagnose the problems simply by connecting a diode test light via the battery and pin number 8 on the ECM.
