Front Door - Check Strap

Has anybody had a problem with the support which holds the check strap on the driver's door pillar, cracking away from the inside of the pillar, resulting in a cracking on opening and closing the door.

I first ran into this problem about 6 months ago, and approach the local dealer to see if this fitting was accessable from the rear of the pillar, and if a replacement could be fitted -NO

Enter the MIG welder. Fine until about two weeks ago when the weld started to crack away from the pillar, back to square one.

Now I know there is a different fitting on the 164 and 145/146, where the support is screw in the pillar. Has anyone tried this approach. Any info.

I think it probably lacks lubrication on the check strap. Not come across it myself.

not come across it in the alfa before,

on a festa i had the same sorta thing happened on the bottet hinge... the hinge was seizing up and putting too much stress on where it bolted to the car and ended up ripping off the hinge from the car, some new hinges (nice and free not seized) and not problem...

I would backup henry and check out the strap to see if it is overtight/stiff, you might need to try and free it up a bit.

just my tuppence worth
