I can help you out with both your queries mate... I've just had a complete top end rebuild as I changed my own cambelt and it went **** up, bending all my inlet valves, as I didn't understand how the inlet variator worked. So, I took the head off and sent that off for new valves etc., collected all my new parts-variator, pulleys, head bolts etc., and like you, I struggled to find anybody who would touch an Alfa at a reasonable price. Wrinx has recommended Trofeo, but they aren't there anymore unfortunately. I know because I've been chasing him, but I have good news - I found a place in Heanor, just outside Ilkeston called Terry Mulligans, who know their stuff. He didn't hesitate to take the job on. We towed it in with a boot full of bits, including my head, and a couple of days later I drove it out, running as sweet as a nut. My old variator had become very noisy, I didn't realise how noisy until I collected my car. He only charged me £170 labour, I'd been quoted between £300-£1500 for the same job. Terry has got all the cam locks and special tools to do the work, and he was very helpful. His own car is a Lancia, so your on the right track straight away. This message comes with high recommendation, his telephone number is - 01773 712244(ask for Terry junior, and tell him Dave Leach-with blue 155 told you to ring).
I have another contact for your paint. He does work for Sytner and Mercedes etc. His work is excellent and very reasonably priced. He paints all my friends/family cars and has done for years. He has a unit in Colwick Industrial Estate, Nottingham. His own car is a Lancia Integrale Dealership (only 200 made, I think).Give him a ring, you wont be disappointed, his telephone number is 0115 9872201 (ask for Rich and again, tell him Dave Leach gave you his number).
If you need to visit either places, get back to me and Ill give you directions from your end.
Good luck mate, let me know how ya get on.
