155 Thermostat

Hi Everyone,

I was having a look at the messages posted on this forum regarding thermostats and replacements - I have finally realised mine is stuck open!

I ordered one today from a general motor factor, however, it only costs £8 + VAT and should arrive in a couple of days. My main concern is that this seems a very cheap price, considering that (so I understand), the thermostat and housing are sold as one complete unit, and was expecting it to cost something in the region of £25 - 30!

Is this likely to be the wrong thermostat - should I buy one from an Alfa Romeo dealer, as I need to get the right one desperately, as the car is running with full choke (thinking it's on a cold start!)

Many Thanks,
Tony.

(P.s. - My car is a 1994 Alfa 155 8v TS).

Re: 155 Thermostat

Hi,

What you are saying is correct for the 16v, its about £30-£40 (I think, might be more) and one unit.

Does it look like No.1 in the pic? Thats listed at £25+VAT for an 8v 155

Re: 155 Thermostat

Thanks for your help AlfaJack! I don't know if it looks like number one or not to be honest with you, all I can say is that I'm 99% sure that the thermostat is supplied in it's housing - and in the picture, it's one whole unit!

I think it may be better to get one from Alfa Romeo's - do you think they will have this in stock, as it's obviously a near-enough obselete part for them now surely! My nearest one is Maidstone a few miles from me!

Many Thanks,
Tony.

Re: 155 Thermostat

better phone them first and ask them to order it. Could save you a drive. Pretty sure they won't have one in stock

Re: 155 Thermostat

might be worth trying shop4parts, they seem to do cheap thermostats.

I use Mangos a lot too - very helpful guys. Pattern parts can be had cheaper from other places on occasions but there are still lots of things you need to get from the main dealers, and the more you use Mangos, the more likely they are to give you some discount.

Re: 155 Thermostat

Aye! A cheap one won't last as long in my experience. The OE Alfa part will do 3 years before it starts getting lazy again.
