I dunno about the gearbox mount.. but maybe, if the car only does it when going round a roundabout.. You'll have to get your head underneath and waggle the gearbox around. It shouldn't move at all if you're just leaning on it by hand. Mind you don't rattle the car off the jack or axle stands while you're doing it.
I had a worn selector fork on 5th gear in my old bus and that was obviously a gearbox problem, rather than a mount. If you need a replacement box, the '55 had quite a lot of commonality with other TS engined models like the 145/6 so there should be loads of second-hand ones around.
If it was me.. I'd be inclined to change the clutch at the same time (and slave cylinder?) unless you know that yours are almost brand new... saves any more hassle later.
