hi guys i have just brought a 1997 alfa 155 1.8ts with a u/s engine a few questions what would be the best engine for me to replace it with and is the 1.8 - 2.0 a straight swap ? will it run with the wiring loom from the 1.8 etc

Is it a 8v or a 16v?

The 16v offers more potential, since it's the later and vastly more available engine (fitted in various guises to 155, 156, 145, 146, 147 and GTV). Among these engines it's best to go for a like-for-like (CF1, CF2 or CF3 types)

The 8v is old-school Alfa and would be more tricky to replace as far as the wiring/ECU goes.. I would have thought though I haven't done that swap, so I dunno.

Being a 1997, it gonna be a 16v I would think.

The 1.8 and 2.0 is a straight swap as far as I know, but the ECU may need to be opened to let it know its a 2.0 instead of 1.8

The other alternative is the FIAT 5 cylinder from a coupe, but you would need to swap the engine wiring loom, and there is extra electrickery stuff to be done.
Plenty of people have done the swap, so the info should be out there.
