Is it an 8v or 16v variant engine ?
It may not matter.
Could be a problem with your plugs, leads or coil packs, check them all.
With the coil packs on a 16v, check for any hairline cracks in the black block.
if they are cracked, seal the cracks, then wrap with insulating tape for good measure.
Also check the plug wells for oil in them, especially the leftmost 2. If there is oil in the wells, you'll more than likely have oil inside the plug leads, so clean them as well.
It sounds like either a spark or fuel problem, so it could be a few things.
Start with the above to rule out spark.
