155 not turning off

Hi lads,

Very strange thing happened during the week, the car had been sitting up for about 2 weeks so when I started it up all was normal but turned it off after about 20 seconds as I had to open the boot so turned the key to off position and removed it but the engine stayed running! so put the key back in and turned it to the on position and I heard the starter motor grinding noise as you do then turned it to off position then the engine switched off. Very odd, has that happened to anyone before? should I be worried?

I have seen a punto to do this and it was a worn key, i ended up changing up the all the door barrels and ignition, its not a big problem but i wanted to have the car perfect and being able to take the key out while its running is not very safe.....

This maybe your problem.

Nope I can tell you exactly what it is. Water ingress into the fuse box by your foot. Had teh same problem with my 155 only more severe. The ignition was always on and half the dash lights. Took it out. dried it on a rad and re installed with plastic bag over the top of it. problem solved. Its very common on the 155

cheers JEss now you know what my next question is, HOW did water get in there? I heard while back that some 155s were letting in water around the base of the windscreen on the drivers side and that it would leak onto the fusebox, was it the same for yours? should I be worried about rust forming if so?

Mine's started leaking above the fuse box too.. my wipers have gone a bit mental (come on when the switch is off etc.) so the watery fusebox is probably the one to check first.

In mine, the water drips onto the fuse box.. not enough to get into the carpet (though I did notice a damp carpet before it finally showed up as an electrical problem). Stick your hand under the mats after a wet spell.. that'll tell you if you have a severe problem or not.

Also check the drainage hole under the wiper assembly, as I had a flooded fuse box with my 155, and this was the cause of the problem !

I had the same on mine, but mine was caused by a cowboy who have replaced my screen, and had blocked the little gutter at the bottom of the screen (under the scuttle panel), the caused a build up of watr around the corners of the screen, and guess what, he hadn't sealed the corners very well !!, i could get a large flat bladed screwdriver into the gap

the water then found its way down to the fusebox.

Remove the fusebox, and get it dry, then replace with a plastic bag over the top of it to stop any further ingress while you find the cause.

As above, also remove the scuttle panel, and make sure the drain hole in the middle isn't blocked, as this can fill up, and eventually will find its way into the cabin.

one more thing...

why didn't you open the boot with the unlock button? no need to switch off the ignition...

it's in the glovebox...

it will be the wiring going from the body of the car to the bootlid.

soon you will get funky behaviour in the lights etc...

check in the rubber between the bootlid and the body...
