What's it worth?

Took my wifes BM back to the garage we bought it from in the back of beyond to get new front tyres fitted this morning. It was an interesting adventure as outside the tyre place there was a sorry looking 155 2.0l lying in the yard. The guy who owned it wasn't around but one of the mechanics said it was for sale. I think he had been trying to sell a 145 CL track day car too as part of the deal, looking for £700 for both cars.

Apparently the 155 needs new brakes all round but the engine is meant to be sound and it runs fine. It was being used up until last summer when it was parked up and has sat there idle since then. There were various bits of interior trim stripped off inside so there are probably a few problems there too. The bodywork looked fine (champagne coloured) with the exception of the rear arches which were both rusted very badly, as in the metal was thin and holed in several places.

Anybody any idea what to pay for one of these in this condition? I'm interested but the bodywork issue is a worry and possibly the floorpan will be in a state too. I'm assuming the ideal scenario is to try and source replacement quarter panels but how difficult a job is this to do on these cars?

I'm thinking it's probably not worth much more than a couple of hundred quid right now but it would nice to try and save the car. Despite being tatty it still looked good sitting there on it's black alloy wheels!

If the outer rear arches are badly rotted the inner ones tend to be too, which means a fair amount of welding and plating. Actually changing the outer rear quarters isn't necessarily difficult (they are bolt-on) but as well as the bolts there is a fair bit of adhesive, and you need to strip a fair bit of trim off too......

If you can get the car for £200 or so its worth it, if only in bits.........not that I wish to encourage scrapping another 155.......

I assume its a 16v 2.0?

Yeah, the mechanic next door said it ran well prior to being parked up and that it had been chipped.

Hi Richard! That's interesting that the rears are bolt on - I never realised that. It is a 2.0l 16v.

I'm heading back up next Saturday so I'll give the bloke a phone this week to try and arrange a proper viewing. He has a trailor there too so hopefully if I took the car I could get it delivered cost effectively!

Hi mate that was my old car , you can see pics of it in the gallery new engine is very good , super chipped and goes like a rocket. Floor needs welding along the sills and inside the boot and under the rear arches , also needs clutch master cylinder and has a small blow from the manifold. The guy bought it from me to put the engine into his track car. It has lowered and uprated suspension the brakes were spot on so must be corrosion with sitting , it has a nice set of 17" alloys but will need tyres. Was a good car when i had it but think it needs several pounds spent on it now. Need more info give me a shout

Hi, thanks for the info. I think it has a bit too much needing doing to it for me to be honest! I have enough problems with my 166 money pit. It's a shame to see a car rotting away like that though especially as 155s are so damn good to drive.
