155 soon to go...

Well, after 13 years of mostly enjoyable ownership, it's time to move on. Just put a years MOT on it this morning, and pretty sure I already have a buyer lined up.

MOT was interesting. Got advisories for front to back brake pipes (surface corrosion), rear tyres (fair enough - legal but getting thin) and handbrake close to limit of efficiency (bloody cables again). General condition underneath suggests its the right time to move on - all OK...but not too many more MOTs before it'll need some welding.

The chap buying intends to run it for a few months, then pull the engine for another project.

I still have the 166 though, plus the Busso V6 in the Strat copy so still an Alfa household.

That's a shame. I just got hold of a V6 skinny that the owner said was scrap but all it needs is a plate weld on the front sill & a hole in the downpipe welded up & a damn good clean.

Maybe yours will live long.

It's possible the guy may run it more than a few months - who can say. Never know, he may well offer the shell for sale when he pulls the engine. Then again, scrap prices are still way up there.....

It's far from being a scrapper though, it did just pass an MOT after all, and the bloke I go to certainly won't pass anything dodgy. It's just that I wanted a change, and I'm long past the point of wanting to keep a car that needs loads of attention to keep it on the road. I did my time on cars like that about 30 years ago thanks!! I don't mind normal servicing and the like, but once it gets to the stage of having to sort out corrosion problems, I lose interest. I reckon the car will reach that point in a couple of years but I fancy a change right now. Already bought the Jeep so the 155 needs to go.

No complaints really. Yes, it needed a replacement engine last year, which would have led to a lot of folk scrapping it I think, certainly cost me more than it was worth to put right but it gave me another years use and means it's still quite saleable. The A/C stopped working about 12 years ago and it had a shocking appetite for front tyres initially, but overall, it's been pretty good. It's never let me down. Not once. Might have got a bit p155y from time to time...but never let me down. Not done huge miles in that time, it's just under 120k now, it was 48k when I bought it.

If my 166 gives as good service I'll be more than pleased.
