Injector light

Hi guys

I have had my 155 2 L 16V Super for 10 years now, with minimal problems. She has 130k kilometres on the clock now.

Lately the injector light has been coming on, usually for only a few seconds. I have replaced the lambda sensor, but the problem is still there. She is running just fine with the light on, but it does need fixing. Only other problem is occational hard starting, but that has been there a long time.

The ICV is clean.

I do note that some of the electrical connectors are not very clean and the one on the water temp sensor has slight white corrosive residue. Can this be the source of the injection light flickering? Is there a product on the market that can effective clean electrical connections?

What are the usual culprits?

Your input will be much appreciated.

The manual says that the light can come on for a couple of seconds and go out. this is normal although it never happened to mine. Things that can cause problems are cam timing sensor and the injectors. Clean the dirty connectors first though

Thanks Joss. I guess checking the basics is always the logical first step. Will stop by my local Partman over the weekend to look for some electrical connection cleaner.

To clean the male end of the connectors use some fine emery paper or wire wool. After you got rid of any grease, just give the blades a rub so they're shiny again. Check that the female bit is tight.. (oi! ) but don't squeeze it with pliers or you may distort it.

I did as well as I could with fine emery paper as it is very difficult to reach. Did buy some electrical cleaner in an aerosol yesterday. Sprayed it on all the contact surfaces. Will only drive the car by the weekend though, cannot say yet if it worked.... It seems that dirty ones are the nr 1 injector and the water temp sensor especially.
Thanks

Hi

I had a similar problem a while back - the injector light would come on intermittently when driving and this was sometimes accompanied by a hesitation from the engine. It turned out to be some slightly damaged cables and oxidised relay contactsin the engine bay. Probably worth pulling out each relay in turn and cleaning the contacts (both on the relay and in the sockets).

I have cleaned all the electrical connections relating to the fuel injection. Also all the relays by the battery box. Used Wynns Electrical Cleaner (do not know if this is available out of SA.)

I am very glad to say, it did the trick. I tested the car extensively over the weekend and the injection light never came on, not even for one millisecond. Plus the engine is running just beautifully!

I suspect the main culprits were the oxidised contacts of the water temp sensor and no 1 injector possibly.

Thanks for the input guys.

No worries. Glad we were able to advise on a cheap fix rather than costing the earth!
