With a certain amount of swapping of manifolds, sensors etc, pretty much any TS 16v engine will fit, except the 166 one that has different sumps and mountings....if it gets to that stage I'm sure we can talk you through it - but its much more likely to be an electrical issue of some sort preventing your engine from starting, I'd have thought.
First check - when you turn on the ignition, does the code light come on then go out after a few seconds? If not, then you need to check out the immobiliser wiring etc. If that does work, then look to the fuel pump relays (and the cut-off switch under the passenger seat).
I'm assuming of course that the engine turns over - when you say you've done the timing, was this just to do a routine belt replacement, or was it because the belt had failed? If the belt had failed its almost certain that the valves will have been damaged and it won't run. You did set the timing up using the proper cam locks, didn't you?
Sorry to pose you a load of questions, but with a bit more info, we might be able to help you get the beastie up and running again.
