alfa 155 1.8 break or make ?

Hi guys ! just bought a 155 1.8 for spares, but on second thoughts i think its worth to save it. I was told that both coils to the spark plugs are faulty and makes the car misfire and run like a dog. It is a 1994 8 valve I suppose. Dont really know too much about this engine because mine is a 2.0 16 v totally diferent, what i would like to ask is if anybody out there can help out, and how expensive are the coils, and if these symptons ring bells . All help would be appreciated.

What you need is someone to sell you a couple of good secondhand coils

I have what you need

Hi ronb-65 . Yes probably that is what i need , but I I find that is too much coincidence both coils to fail at the same time. Is that something normal on these engines ?

Well out of the thousands of cars produced and the millions of coil packs in the world I would have tought that some are going to fail at the same time. Seems a shame to throw away a car for a couple of coil packs. If it doesn't work and turns out to be a massive job you can always break it for spares and make your money back!

I think you have a good valid point. I already sourced two new coils for what is a very reasonable €72. and that is exactly what I am going to do. Thanks for all your help and I will keep you all posted on the development.

Bare in mind that if one failed the engine would still run as it has 2 sparkplugs per cylinder so one could have failed years ago un-noticed and the other has only just packed up.

Hi guys and girls, well I hope there are some . on the subject I got the coils and the engine is idling ok, but now i have found out that the clutch pedal is on the floor, so more investigation and hopefuly its only the rubbers on the master cilinder. i will keep you posted, otherwise there might be some more bits to keep all other 155s happy

Sounds more like the slave cylinder on top of the gearbox.
Check fluid level in reservoir first to make sure there is some, then check for fluid on the top of gearbox under the battery tray.

hello , its me again and this time the news are not what i was hoping for, another 155 bits the dust. I have got 2 spanking brand new coils and other bits that i will not need for myself because they wont be compatible with my other car. so if anybody out there want some cheap bits to keep their cars on the road, ask and i will be more than helpefull. the engine sounds great and i am sure all the other mechanical bits are ok, the main problem with the car its electrical, there is no power from the coils to the two mid cilinders and the clutch pedal is on the floor. I am not bothered to scrap it because I need the interior and other bits and fixing its way out my league at the moment.
