155 V6 won't rev above 3000rpm

Hi, went out in the morning in my 155 V6 and everything was fine. Went back out in the afternoon and now won't rev past 3000rpm. As soon as i get to the 3000rpm mark the car just splutters and holds back. Car sounds fine upto 3000rpm but then the problems begin any ideas?

Sounds like your engine management is in saftey mode, has your engine light come on?

No there are no lights on. The most baffling thing about is that there was no sign of a problem when i parked it then this problem appeared when i started it up again. Got to love Alfa's

Maybe low fuel pressure.... does it start ok? Also the AFM could have something to do with it.

Yes it starts fine everything about the car is normal except that it won't rev past 3000rpm.

Does it cut out at the same revs every time, no matter what throttle input?

List of things that could be wrong:

Throttle position sensor
Crank position sensor
Coil pack
Air flow meter
Low fuel pressure (fuel pressure regulator, filter or pump)
Cam timing off (very unlikely)
Ecu (as above, very unlikely)
Moisture on the electronics?

Would advise you on which to check first (cheaper to more expensive) but prices here are quite different.

Well went out in the car this evening an threatened the car with scrapyard and it is now working fine. Amazing i have an Alfa that fixes itself I believe the problem was moisture had got into the electrics near the O/S headlamp and has now dried. Thanks for the advice but i did not get round to starting to check various sensors got my Alfa back now (at least till the next prob)
