V6 clutch problem.
Did the engine swap on the V6 this weekend. All went pretty well, replacement motor running nice and sweet, sounds good, no leaks.
All put back together, off to the shops. Or not as it turned out.....no clutch. Pedal feels, well, weird, stuck down a few times, slave seems to be moving OK but can't disengage clutch. Tried engaging 3rd then starting the car with foot on clutch pedal. Ran, but makes a nasty screeching noise and drags a LOT.
Start engine, press clutch pedal, no noise...but clutch not disengaged, can't get a gear.
Engage gear, press clutch pedal, start engine...it runs, but screams and drags a lot.
So, before I take the damn gearbox out.....any thoughts?? It's a new clutch - complete Valeo kit, all went together fine. I've never had bother with a clutch before.
Only thing I can think of at the moment is that maybe I put the operating lever back on the spline 1 tooth out so it's maybe not pushing far enough??...but on the 164 at least, the splines are keyed to prevent this.
Couldn't face getting all the tools etc out again now so not done anything other than look and see the slave moving. It'll have to wait until next weekend now before I can do anything more to it
Probably not important...but who knows! The old release bearing - it fell apart. The spring clip holding the race to the carrier was missing. Found some traces of it rattling about inside the bellhousing.
....don't tell me the clip is just there to hold it together in transit and I should have removed it........(well, tell me if it is...but be gentle)
p.s. went up & under to get the engine out in the end - just seemed a bit easier that way. Lowered engine onto trolley with crane, then lifted car with crane and wheeled engine out from under.
(I've posted this elsewhere as well to try and catch as much advice as possible!)
