Immobiliser problem

Hi there, I hope someone can help with a problem I have with my immobiliser.

I have an R reg 155 2.0TS and I've owned for nearly eight years.

Recently, the immobiliser has been giving me some trouble. To 'disable' it I have a small black plastic fob with three 'pins' which I push on the immobiliser device in my car and I can start my car as usual.

However, over the past few days there have been occasions when it's had no effect and the immobiliser has not been disabled. While this hasn't caused a huge amount of inconvenience it's a concern and I'm interested to know what's causing it.

To right the current situation, I tend to leave the car alone for 10 minutes or so, though tonight at the petrol station(!) it was a case of push the immobiliser, turn the ignition a few times over before the engine fired into life.

Any thoughts?

thanks.

Re: Immobiliser problem

Sorted, I think.

It's not an original part anyway, so I shouldn't have expected a response.

A gave that side of my steering column a whack when it happened again on my way home from work tonight and that worked a treat.

Happened again a bit later on.

I think I'll put it down to 'character'.

Re: Immobiliser problem

Always confuses me when people have aftermarket immobilisers - when Alfa have one as standard. Mind you the standard alarms tend to be pants, so most immobilisers are probably bundled with replacement alarms.

Re: Immobiliser problem

It was something installed by the previous owner, so I suppose it's done well to be trouble free for as long as it has!
