Your problem is consistent with worn cam lobes, there wont be any kocking or other bad noises yet, but the idle would be rough and power wil be down, just remove the rocker cover and examine the cam lobes, simpletask really, just loosen the plugs to aid rotation of the engine and only turn it by the CRANK, also whilst your investigating, check the position of the belt tensioner, if the pointers below the hole then your belt is stretching too.
Ifyour cams look like those below then replace them, and give the engine a good flush and filter change... TWICE... and pray that the bigends have not gotten ground (they will have a knocking noise from around 2500 rpm if they have been).
