Oil Pressure

Hi All,
Had oil & filter change recently and I've noticed that sometimes the pressure rises up to max. When this happens I declutch to tickover and the pressure returns to normal. Could it be the filter or is this OK?
Appreciate any thoughts, ta.

Re: Oil Pressure

Yeah to 8 Bar and the oil is Selenia 10/40 and it says 20K on the can.
Incidently it doesnt seem to use oil - I change it every 6000Miles

Re: Oil Pressure

8 bar is above the maximum pressure the oil pump can deliver, it's got a pressure relief valve. the maximum will be no more than 6 bar, more likely 5 bar, so it's either gauge or sender inaccuracy...

Re: Oil Pressure

Aye! The sender is a little egg-cup shaped thing (on the v6 at least) with a single wire sticking out of it. If you take the spade off, clean up the prong and re-fit it, see what happens.

Re: Oil Pressure

I have had a stuck relief valve on a Lancia Fulvia before. That gave me full scale pressure and thats pretty scary on a Fulvia as the block to crankcase gaskets are a bit weak and its a major rebuild to fix!
Poor sender connection would give you a low reading, maybe you introduced some grit into the oilways when you did the oil change? Thats what happened to me.

Re: Oil Pressure

this happened to a guy over on the .org he ended up having a full bottom end rebuild

although his would go upto 8, then drop to 0 and then normal in quite quick succession, just keep an eye on it. I take it the oil filter is O.E?
