Hmmm De-Cat

I was told by mechanic that I can take the cat off my Alfa but I would need a De-Cat Kit?

Re: De-Cat

I don't have the pre cats anymore and I did need any de-cat kit.

Re: De-Cat

I meant, I "DIDN'T NEED" any decat kit.

What I've done with the 147: since the pre cats where both destroyed, I've found a way to remove the interior of the pre cats while keeping the original exhaust line. Simple cut, clean, and have it "glued" again.

Re: De-Cat

you don't need a decat kit per se, on e decat pipe.. the 155 doesn't have precats anyway...

keep the cat you have as spare and get a small silencer made up to fit in it's place (powerflow or something similar). IF you fail emmissions, (not necessarily) it's easy to refit the cat and go back before the 10 days are over

Re: De-Cat

I had my v6 de-catted , first I had the empty box type fitted, this gave a much better /free revving feel and the car was faster. However I did not like the sound , It was much less raspy..So I had it altered to a straight through y piece ,and the sound is great . especially once it really gets warmed up on a run...

Well Happy Re: De-Cat

There was no need to De-Cat my car.

It is in the garage having the exhaust system stripped and rebuilt from manifold to back box.

The mechanic said that the rattling was from my cat, some of it had broken away and was rattling around inside. Also because of the bits that were rattling round the debris from this was being pushed into the small holes that the cat is made up of.

So he had got a pole and basically poked out the rest of the cat into the bin, so I have now a small silencer instead of a cat. Purrrfect.

Picking it up later, can't wait to hear or to drive again.

Re: De-Cat

I fancy a supersprint manifold back system on mine. From what I can tell if you go for the de-cat option, it removes 3 silencers!

Black is good, even better with the black wheels.

Yeh I can see the link Darth

Anyhow have the Alfa back, not well.

Started no probs then went down the road like a kangeroo until I got it in 3rd then it took off.

Seemed better when it was warmed up. Still lumpy in traffic. 5th gear low revs not good.

I now have a Supersprint back box and then nothing all the way to the manifold. Except for the empty cat box.

Someone suggested that disconnecting my battery would reset my ECU to the new exhaust setup?

Other than this is there anything I may have overlooked?

Re: De-Cat

cant see how this would have messed up by fitting a decat.

what else has been worked on??

Re: De-Cat

doesn't sound at all likely to be caused by the exhaust, check if the connection to the AFM is still on tight...

AFM being?

Been out today started ok and drove off then it started kangerooing until change up and boot it.

Missing and stuttering in 5 around 2 -3thou revs then seems to clear and takes off. Ticking over lumpy as well.

Is there any way it could be the lam thingy on the exhaust?

I did disconnect and reconnect my battery.

Re: De-Cat

AFM is the air flow meter on the inlet, if this comes off or stops working this is what it causes. it does have a lambda probe before the cat so wont have made a differance to its readings unless it was heavily knocked

Re: De-Cat

Doesn't quite look like that.

The rubber pipe between the 2 boxes has no ties and is very slack.

I have to have another look later.

Re: De-Cat

check if all your plugs are sparking, get a spare plug, remove one cable at a time and hold it with the spare sparky attached to the engine.

Switch off the engine when touching the spark plug, in fact don't touch anything with yer hands while the engine is running, use pliers to hold HT leads or spark plug...
