Water pump undone... now what?
I'm swapping my water pump on the way to replacing the cam belt and tensionerator.
I've taken out the 12 bolts holding it in.. and the 4 bolts holding it to the "hatch" on top. A heap of water came out and the pump is now loose.. but I can't get it off the car. How's it done?
Looking at the rear of the new one seems to suggest the old one has to come away from the engine by about 1cm (for the impeller to clear the block) but I can't pull it away from the block as the bottom of the pump fouls on the crank flywheel.
I can't lift it over the flywheel because the impeller fouls in its slot. So, I need the flywheel out of the way.. but that looks like a nightmare to remove.. it's never been undone since the day it left the factory (read "rusty and seized on threads" looking).
Is there a way for the pump to come off with the flywheel in place? Ive jiggled it about but no joy at all...
Also, does anyone know how the water pump hatch is connected to the water pipe that runs between the cylinders? It was connected to the flange by 2 screws (removed now) but it won't budge.
I think if I can get this hatch out of the way, I'll be able to pull the pump upwards enough to clear the flywheel... but maybe not. I'm still curious though..
No bullets for Chaingun..
