So this week was the final push on the GT...
plans were Turbo VNT re-calibration and GTA clutch and SMF conversion.
I suspected that the hybrid I had on the car was still not ''quite right'' so I elected to take it off the car and get it back to turbo dynamics...those of you that have followed my modding will know that I have been a bit unlucky with the turbo's, the result is that anyone following on will get it perfect first time..
what transpired is that the VNT setting considered a ''pass'' by garret factory specs were not accurate enough for the hybrids to get them working at optimum performance, this was discovered when my first hybrid failed to break the 200bhp mark and wouldn't spool before 2500 rpm despite a fairly lairy map. It was taken off the car and replaced with my current unit which by comparison was better but still not quite where it should be.
In the interim turbo dynamics and Ned were working behind the scenes to ensure that this aspect was nailed, a software update on Turbo dynamics flow bench and a better understanding of how the VNT setting on the hybrids equates to real world results means they are now perfect, the calibration which took place on my turbo on Tuesday had a massive effect, it spools 300 rpm earlier at 1700 rpm, is more muscular and willing in every gear, more torque on tap, the whole car just feels more alive and rev happy..a fantastic job by turbo Dynamics and also a big thanks to Loz and the lads at Autolusso south for taking off the turbo, doing an oil and filter change, removing the anti shudder flap and giving the K&N filter a good clean and lending me a courtesy car so I could drop my turbo to TD, it was all refitted and ready to go before the end of the day, all done with a smile and nothing was too much trouble..
top work chaps, but no surprise as they always go the extra mile, and on top of that Loz keeps all his paperwork in order as well..
Now onto today, Ned for a while had speculated that the SMF and GTA clutch conversion would be the correct route to go on these hybrid turbo's , After Damien tried JTD performances organic stage 3 clutch and found it really did not work he went with Ned's suggestion and reported really positive results...well having had that done today I can report it is absolutely FANTASTIC! the icing on the cherry on the cake.
clutch pedal is as soft as butter ,the car feels more refined and more willing to rev and the completely unexpected but welcome effect is that the turbo ''feels'' like it is kicking in earlier, now it isn't of course but I suspect what is happening is due to the lighter flywheel and less rotational mass ,the power is transmitted through the drive train earlier, I can now honestly feel the turbo from 1500 RPM, the car is beautiful to drive and better than I ever could have expected when I began this, It is GTA quick, simple as that, blinkin epic ..
also had a good chat with Ned about my mapping moving forwards, and Autolusso are now offering a service where they will send you software,a cable and blanking plate to be able to remotely do anything from an EGR delete to a full re-map or even the hybrid turbo package that Damien and I have, the map can be emailed back and tweaked as need be, so effectively remote custom mapping..
so a big thanks to Ned for today excellent job resulting in a fantastic drive home, and both Ned and Loz for looking after my Blackie for the last 18 months ,giving excellent advice and helping me get the car where I wanted , I now have a really solid reliable car that goes as well as it should have from the factory..lets be honest 150 BHP was never enough for a car that looks as good as the GT!
