I had a similar issue recently with the window control unit, bear in mind the door switches which you have no doubt looked at are canbus nodes, so be a bit careful when connecting and disconnecting..
in fact to be safe disconnect the battery when working on the WCU as I shorted the NS one when working on the OS unit, confusing day that was, as the fault seemed to change sides! what actually happened was a good clean fixed the faulty drivers side unit and a short toasted the passenger side one, took me a while to get my head around that one..
the window stepping down is a sign the WCU is seeing the door as being open so it steps down as it does when you open the door, it will do this multiply until the window is completely open, if you are not sure its fixed you can (should) disconnect the battery and lock the car manually , this will keep it secure and stop you being workn at 3 am with the alarm going off as the car thinks the door is open with the alarm armed!
a clean may fix it but often a new WCU is the answer, (£40-50 on ebay or one of the breakers mentioned earlier) take the time when you are in the door card to check for any moisture and use a hair dryer to sort it, then use some gaffa to re-seal the frankly poor door insulation, this will ensure it does not happen again in a hurry.
good luck with it..
