Hello all, I'm hoping to get some thoughts from those of your who are more knowledgeable than I am because after almost two years of owning my 147 (05reg 1.9 jtd 150bhp) I feel it may be time to part ways. The car has been my sole form of transport, travelling about 60 motorway miles 3 or 4 days a week and hooning around the country lanes on the odd weekend. Now a new job means my commute has been reduced to nothing and so I was considering selling the car on as I really don't feel the car will get the attention it deserves.
The car has been well looked after with a full service history. While I've had it almost all the work I've had done has been done by a passionate alfa specialist
and were it this simple then I'd stick an advert on autotrader/ebay/pistonheads and hope for the best.
, for a while now the clutch has been stiff which, according to many posts on here, seems to be a sign of clutch wear. The car has done 100k miles so this isn't really a surprise, however due to the stiffness of the clutch the master cylinder has been creaking away for a couple of months and I've been too poor to get it looked at. Finally, it seems that the master cylinder may have given up as the more I use the clutch the lower the bite gets (unless you leave it for a while and it returns to normal).
So the way I see it I have a few options:
1) I sink 500-600£ into getting the clutch, dmf and master cylinder replaced and try and sell her on. (I also considered the single mass flywheel conversion but doesn't seem much cheaper)
2) Try and sell to someone who is more mechanically capable (for spares or repair), or is willing to get the issues fixed and may get some use out of it.
3) I flog her for scrap (which pains me to even type that).
What do you guys think is my best option? Am I likely to get any more than scrap value for the car in a private sale as it is? What would you do?
Thanks in advance.
