60k service?

Hey all just a nice quick and easy one for you all, i have a little 1.6 ts lusso 147 she has just gone past the 60k mark it has had a cambelt change but a bit noisy when starting no service light has come on yet but i would like to get it done and dusted as i have only just become an alfa addict

what sort of things should i change, check in a 60k service, also my car seems to be burning a bit of oil is that normal?

also when i pull off at a slight corner no incline i get a sort of grinding noise not something i can describe i hve checked all suspension bit bushes etc all i can see is that my brakes need changing so hoping it could be those.

let me know thanks lads

Re: 60k service?

At 60k you are also supposed to change all 8 spark plugs.

In the manual it states what work needs to be done. If you dont have it, have a lok here: Alfa Romeo 147, 156, GT, GTV & Spider Service Schedule

Re: 60k service?

The Grinding noise could either be brakes binding..usually a good clean out of the pads and calipers cures that..and making sure the caliper pistons move freely. Or it could be a wheel bearing on the way out, and these often sound worse on a corner as there is an inner and outer bearing..and the failing one makes a louder noise when it is loaded up..i.e. cornering. The difficulty is often identifying which wheel is doing it.

Much less likely, but still possible is a driveshaft joint failing.

No need for main dealer, any half respectable mechanic can sort these out at reasonable cost, but i'd suggest using a good independent Alfa specialist.

Yes, they use oil. Its not indicative of anything serious usually..PROVIDED you check it weekly and keep it topped up. Running low or dry may cause serious damage. Be warned and vigilant. Lots of makes of cars do this, so its not just an 'Alfa' thing
hope this helps

Re: 60k service?

had the grinding noise when moving off at a corner - took the back wheels off to discover that the brakes had binded, they were so rusted in place that the car had been driving about 40K with the back calipers stuck to the discs, after a good clean out they are squeak free and the car is braking as normal.
