On the dual carriage way this evening and decided to push it a little - got some good speed up and boom - engine control system failure and check engine light. No turbo kick in at all, and cannot get up hills without dropping down to 3rd at 4000 rpm and I live in Cornwall!
It's a 2005 1.9JTD With 91,000 on the clock. Am I screwed?
sounds exactly like the normal diesel power train related stuff....you are most likely not screwed at all...what you must do is get an elm 327 and torque app pro on your phone and read the codes, post what you find and exact symptoms...
does it clear when you key off and back on again? ...TBH there are a number of things it could be and it requires a methodical and patient approach, you may be lucky and hit the bullseye first time or you could have to go though a number of things before you find the underlying issue.
at 91,000 you are getting into the territory of replacing the MAF,and MAP sensors and I would imagine if your boost hoses are original they will have seen better days EGR is always worth a shout on these as is the vac hose to the VNT actuator and the solenoid switch. good news is as its an 05 you won't have any swirl flaps to worry about.
you may if unlucky have stuck variable vanes in the turbo..they can be cleaned with varying degrees of success but the only way to be 100% sure is to have it refurbished...first things first rule out all the usual suspects.
