I had the exact same problem and done exactly as per the routine in the hyperlink above. It's the only way to cure it properly, the push button attracts dirt and dust which then gathers inside the mechanism. This then causes the scoring on the underside of the button barrel. I sprayed a very thin lube/displacer called GT85 to the internals to clean it, before applying a waterproof grease. I couldn't get it fully apart and after looking at it, didn't want to take it fully apart, looked like two pairs of hands would be needed to get it back together again.
If I remember correctly it took around 2-2½ hours, and I think a good part of that was trying to either get the door handle out the door or back in the door, can't remember which, but it is fiddly. Hopefully won't need to do it again for 5 years !
