Inner CV joint replacement - what lid to remove

Hi I am uncertain if I should remove the inner or the outer metal cover to free the inner JV joint.

Are there any pictorial guides?

The "inner" cover is actually the base plate of the CV boot and is most likely rusted in place. the "Outer" cover is an end cap. Removing that will give you access to the circlip. Remove that and then tap the joint and it will slide off the driveshaft.
