Slugish acceleration

Hello there I wonder if anyone can help?
I have a 156 2.4jtd 10v and it has a lot of power at the top of the pedal but still picks up but seems a bit strangled the harder I press the pedal.Other symptoms are that it has a loud droney sound which sounds like it's coming from the air filter box and it seems much better on power when it's raining for some reason? The egr was blocked with black soot and the tip of the exhaust it also black and sooty, I have changed the air filter and done a full service and no change. Many thanks for reading?Paul

Check condition of all air intake pipes, from top of air box to turbo, turbo to intercooler and intercooler to intake manifold. Your looking for a hole, sounds like you are losing air.
