Alfa 147 motor control system failure weirdness
Got my 147 (1.6 petrol) in Jan and since then has been great, except on a couple of occasions it didn't want to start first time, but after leaving it for 10 or 20 secs, it fired up. Then yesterday I went out in it, switched it off for 10 mins and when I got back to it, it wouldn't start - would turn over but not spark. Called out the AA and it started first time (of course!) but displayed the 'motor control system failure message'. The AA chap put a diagnostic job on it and it came up with crank shaft position sensor failure. So I took it to a mechanic friend who replaced the sensor which apparently solved it initially, but then the same MCSF message came up again. This time it runs really rough, missing at lowish revs, which it didn't do before.
I'm dropping it off to him again tomorrow, hopefully refitting the part will solve it, but seems weird that changing the CPS actually created new symptoms! He's not an Alfa specialist so any pointers would be helpful!!
