Help Help please....ASR light keeps coming on

Hello all

Could anyone help me please? I've just had a rear puncture repaired on my 147 and since putting the wheel back on the ASR light keeps coming on if i drive over about 40mph. It seems to be ok at lesser speeds, bumps bends etc. I had no problem when using the spare for a couple of days, it's just happened since the repaired wheel has gone back on.

I've also had the battery changed and new rear brake pads but it was fine after that.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Help please....ASR light keeps coming on

Have you checked the tyre pressure is correct and the same as the others?
Re-Check the wheel bolts while you are at it.

Maybe a single very underinflated tyre could confuse the VDC since that wheel would be rotating more often than the others?
(opposite for overinflated)

Failing that maybe an ABS wheel sensor is getting dodgy?
I don't know if its that likely the tyre fitters whacked a wheelspeed sensor, would be hard to prove and also not very easy for them to do.

Perhaps check if your rear brake discs get warm when you are driving without braking in a straight line assuming the ASR comes on for you then. Maybe a brake caliper is slightly siezed?

Certainly worth getting a garage to look at..
(Check the tyre pressures first though..)

I'm not a doctor - but I really do recommend braking later

Re: Help please....ASR light keeps coming on

is it a different profile tyre by any chance?
(wouldnt be the first time a garage fitted the wrong size)

EDIT: stupid question, you had a repair not a new tyre.

Re: Help please....ASR light keeps coming on

Thanks guys for your replies. I've checked tyre pressures - all fine. TB the asr is indeed coming on in a straight line - i first noticed it as i joined a motorway. I was considering taking the repaired wheel off and putting the spare back on to see if it is a problem with the new wheel ie - take things back to the point at which everything last worked ok.
i've been looking around this forum and alot of people keep mentioning problems related to the battery. as i've just had a new one put on is there a chance it could be an electrical problem relating to the change of battery?
thanks again, GL

Re: Help please....ASR light keeps coming on

This is due to the fact that the car recognised that you had change to the spacesaver tyre.
There is a warning in the owners manual about this problem. Basically it says that the ASR light will flash, that the car could pull to one side during breaking & warns to avoid sharp breaking

According to manual do the following:
To reset this turn off ASR, drive approx 30km / 20mins on mixed road type or 15km / 10mins on highway to let the ABS / ASR control unit recognise the size of the standard wheel

Hope this works for you

Re: Help please....ASR light keeps coming on

I had a similar problems when I switched from 17" summer wheels to 15" M+S wheels. Both ABS and ASR lights would turn on every day or two. After a week of driving, all was I wouldn't worry too much unless it lasts for more that 7-10 days. Good luck!
