Just got myself a tidy 2001 Alfa 156 2.0 Lusso from auction. Never had an Alfa before and felt I was taking a risk despite the full Alfa service history, but it seems to be great car for the money! Handling is amazing for a large saloon car!
I do have a few questions for you Alfa aficionados...
1) How can I check that mine is a Lusso model rather than a plain TS? What features does a 2001 Lusso have that a TS doesn't?
2) I notice that the yellow passenger airbag light flashes for 4 seconds following key-on - this is the one that has a picture of an seat, airbag, child seat and a X symbol. (The other, normal, airbag warning light goes out, as you would expect.) Is this telling me a about a problem with the airbag systems, or do they all do this.
3) I thought my car was a little flat when I first drove it and I thought it was strangely eager to rev right up to the red-line in any gear. I then realised that the red line on the rev counter was at only 5k - surely a 16v motor like this should be happy up to 7k. Would I be right in thinking that someone has fitted a diesel rev counter to this car? Is there any particular reason why this might have been done? I notice the clocks are white-faced, are these standard on a 2001 model?
4) Is there a guide out there for fitting a leather interior? I'm not worried about the seats but I guess the door cards could be tricky. Can the panels be prized off, or do you have to swap the whole door cards. Is this difficult? Are there any spare parts I should have to hand before I start?
Your help will be greatly appreciated
