1998 1.8 - flat after 4,000 rpm
Hey all, my first post asking for help!
My recent purchase is a White, 1998, 64,000 miles 1.8 ts lusso (with sunroof which im told is rare?!?) in brilliant condition as its had a single owner before me, and has been garaged. All for £1700, which I thought was good. But I've found a few problems already!
Flatspot after 4,000 rmp. I't only noticeable in 1st gear when cold, but always noticeable in all other gears. (well I assume 5th too)
I've only had the car 3 days, and havn't had chance to get dirty yet.
I've already had a search and found people talking about changing/cleaning the MAF.
Just wondering, what my first port of call should be really.
sparke plugs, MAF, reset ecu etc...
Local Motorpoint advised me that I only need to change the 4main plugs as the others are only used when the main ones ware, I'm not sure how true this is - Can I just replace the 4 and get good performance, or do I need all 8?
I got the car with a replacment air filter which I have now fitted - although I found why he gave me the replacment filter. the was no filter fitted!!!
I have no idea how long its been running without any filter, what kind of damage may have been done?
I have other Q's but I'll try searching for answers on there before posting.
