the engine check light means there is currently a fault occuring that the ecu has detected. you can read the fault codes using most universal code readers. it could be a cheap and easy fit, it could cost you a fortune, you wont know until you know what the fault is. generaly when a car is sold in this condition you should be prepared for a nasty shock as you find out the reason it was sold is because this fault is expensive to repair.
the airbag light will need an examiner so a dealer is your best bet, hopefully they can fix the airbag system or at least identify the fault, but usually they cant.
