Alfa GT JTD ECU Scan ELM327 Tool Torque Issue

Could you help me to read my MCS fault...

Car is 2006 Alfa GT JTD

I have downloaded Torque App for my Samsung Galaxy S5 and S2

purchased the following hardware:

niceEshop New Version V1.5 ELM327 OBDII OBD2 Bluetooth Car Diagnostic Interface Scanner Black

My Galaxy device pairs with the ELM327 via Bluetooth OK,

Then I have opened the Torque App and made sure the settings were set to Bluetooth and tried the two tickboxes independently and simultaneously with restarts each time.

Typically the App cycles through the various "Checking Proto" versions,

On occasion the App confirms it cannot connect with the ECU.

Any ideas... am I using the right hardware?

I'm sure I found the link on here... will try to recap where I found it.

Best regards

The thread below has the v1.5... I've tried everything I could find to get it working but no luck. (Torque Pro App, does it work on Alfa's?)

I would really appreciate some guidance, particularly if you have tried & tested with a 55 / 2006 plate JTD.
Should it push "home" quite far? The one I have doesn't seem to plug in very far at all.

Also found this is tried and tested... so may buy this one next and get a refund for the first.

It sounds as if your dongle doesn't support EOBD, which is what's needed. Many of these things support OBD2/OBD but not the EuroOBD variant used by Alfa, among others. Whatever you buy, check it specifies EOBD.

I think we all find this out the hard way, I bought an OBD/OBD2 dongle first time around too, since donated to one of my sons.

I'm now using a Maxiscan on a 2008 147 with Bosch EDC16C39 ECU. It works fine with Torque. However, although it shuts down its BT transmission after 30mins of not being used, it doesn't shut down completely. Leaving it in the socket gave me a flat battery in a week.

Thanks for your reply Halftone, I will try the Maxiscan EOBD module.

Good to know I shouldn't leave it plugged in too long. I get the impression the Alfas can suck the battery dry quite easily, on a similar note, I recently parked up my GT for almost 3 weeks, on return the battery needed charging to start. I have a 570 ma battery bought by the previous owner, it can't be more than 2 years old. Many thanks and enjoy the long weekend.

Worth spraying the socket in the car with contact cleaner and pug in / unplug a few times. If it hasn't been used for a while the pins get corroded and won't connect. Unplugging a few times cleans the pins. Clean with something like this not WD40.
