Diesel could be better for future resale value, with fuel going up as it is. You can buy a diesel 2004 70/80K for £8500 to £9000, sometimes basic models. The diesel seems generally to stand the mileage, and is a lot less likely to have been hammered. So if you get a 2005 for about £11000 with about 50K then that could indicate your first year cost. As you are doing about 20000 a year then you don't pay for a low mileage. As an example I paid £12300 for my 18 month old at 46K.
15 months and 10K later I would expect it to fetch about £10500. This is with the essential leather, 17's and reverse sensors.
