And like you Milano, I love to drive it, despite all the faults it's a lovely car.
Well. To be honest I can not belive in all those issues. My alfa 147 has on the clock now 246000 miles. That is older 8V unijet version of course. Yes, yes, yes.... Not mistake 246000 3 times made Europe around and this year we go again. That is why everybody on the world copy that first common rail diesel engine guys. I did know so far that there is a issue just with water pump but only at your multijet version. Otherwise than factory says should be changed with timing belt and done. Simple. And now a few facts about my car. Just do not say I lie here. I say just about my car. Good and bad thinks. I would rather say that garages making guarantee repairs have something with that terrible issues. Repair broker air duct (weak point) charging for a turbo. You do not complain on free repair. They put new plastic pipe and getting new turbo charger for sale. I never heart about any unnatural cases of engine, turbo or clutch issues on JTD after the guarantee, apart those should be due to the millage. I tell you about my clutch in a second. That is the best made diesel on the market. If my opinion and facts sounds to good first bad thinks than. Look.
I changed front wishbones and links 5 Times by myself +_polybashes on stabilizer bar one time forever. I deal now it as a part of the normal service and replace upper ones with filters and oil. (my job + About £ 100 parts each time). My job on the rear was replacement two rear arms for new not genuine ones. Better and stronger bushes (different construction). Also poly rear hub bushes (weak point i that Alfa but put poly and forget.) Poly on sway bar too. All my job + parts £110 + geometry £30. But only one time so far.
I changed also by myself all shocks and springs but that is natural in the car with 250000 miles. I did buy on ebay for £240 shortened shocks with progressive springs from MAXTON (previously made suspension for BMW) Needs GTA geometry settings if you want that one but after about 50000 miles can say is good.
I have a full leather. Nice one. Looking nice and that is finish of good thinks. I have to admit I had a lot of strange noises around when engine worked. They had killed pleasure from drive so if you do not know JTD, only engine problem is hard work that reflecting on the hole car. Solution was sound deadening made by myself. Lots of job and troubles. Now is nice and Bose works 3 times better. It was not expensive think. I got some used mats from scrap yard and bitumen from ebay. But to make it works you must be Alfaholic.
Some little thinks like revers light sensor, abs sensor, and my worse one camshaft position sensor. When I did drive in the middle of tunel on German motorway, car has become dead I started to hate my Bella. Camshaft position sensor replaced + disaster in the German tunel + £300 on it. I know can be something yet...
Anyway I love my alfa still from reason of JTD Engine, JTD engine, JTD engine, and JTD engine. In that times when 90% of the a cars on the market can not exist I go to drive europe around in a few days and I do not care that I have 250000 on the clock. Still factory fitted TURBO, INJECTORS, factory fitted blinded EGR in good working condition if i want for MOT.
I use that car over 5 years and it was company car before. Has done on guarantee air conditioning pipe and upper wishbones. Fully serviced with cambelt replacement at 75000 miles on the clock. Nothing at all. When I bought it suspension was in terrible condition around. My first job. £300 but car was cheap £2000 for 5 years JTD.
AND NOW LOOK:
My investment by 6 years at that engine due to the age and services:
*Main Service :All Filters, suspension and oil. £170 LOOOOOOK AT OIL <<<Millers 5w50 full synthetic>>> No leaks friends. NO
*Timing belt changed 2 times by me for £160
*Rockers seal by me £15
*turbo pipes £120
*Boost valve replaced by me used for £20
*Fuel injection pump by me £60
***Bad one now - Cheap camschaft position sensor for £20 But cost was £300 on German Motorway.
*Fluids- brake, coolant, steering. £30
*steering rack and wheel bearing and hubs from car with 6000 miles after accident £100 with my 3 days job and geometry fr £60
But now on the final reliability:
In situation when everyday by 6 years i go to work in my car 2 miles away, than back, shopping + go to school for my son and something something yet. I make about 3000 cold starts every year is Good. When drive abroad still 100 m/h or more. Love it. Still have a factory turbo and injectors. Not many manufacturers can have it. That is their pain in Diesels.
I changed flywheel and clutch and driveshaft seal at 140000 from new. Must be something wrong there. I trust that thinks you say about happend there but garage was prbably very happy that could give "help" for themselves and get free parts and drink coffe. JTD is one of the best diesels. That is the truth and me and many more users agree.
Do not say please that jtd has a bad realiability. I can say really say for you why JTD is the best common diesel on the market becouse I really use it. Try to use independent garage to find out what is wrong next time. Dealer found the easy way for a cash. That is all.
At least now i wish for you all the best fr a future. You will see as soon you stop use dealers garage your problems with engine will stop.
