Don't agree with you. If you buy a cheap one (£4000) with several owners and 80,000 on it and spend time and money on it to get it up to snuff (say another £3000) it's still a GT with 80,000 miles against the one with 40,000 miles you could have bought for similar money. You can't buy the mileage back and you can't remove the list of previous owners. I think it's called "throwing good money after bad". It will never be worth as much as the low mileage/owners car because values of this marque are so mileage sensitive. Work done by a specialist is always going to be more valued than work you've done yourself no matter how competent you are.
don't see what there is to disagree with..?
I never mentioned mileage anywhere in my post, in fact my comments were based on having a solid reliable working GT at the end of the process and what it would cost to achieve this, what the resale value would be was not even in my equation..I never mentioned residual value at all, just the cost involved in doing the thing.
I still maintain that it will cost you between 8-10k to end up with a really good one in most cases....buy a high miler and it will be cheaper but probably cost more to sort in the end so your overall spend will be similar as if you had went out and bought the minter in the first place., that was all I was saying and we were basically agreeing, in fact at the end of my post I stated I would buy the autolusso one, I see you missed that bit on your quote.
the point is not everyone has 10k flying around and if somebody doesn't buy the high miler it will end up as spare parts, so the £2995 one on autotrader with 123k on the clock is a good option for someone who is prepared to speculate and do a bit of work for the car they want. I 100% agree with you it will not be worth what the minter with the specialist history will be worth BUT..
and here is the kicker..
on another recent thread someone is looking at buying one who does 30k a year, if the owner of the 123k example does 3k a year in his and the owner of the 60 k example does 30k a year in his then in two years they will be worth more or less the same.
the more time passes and the higher mileage will become less of an issue as they will ALL be higher mileage.
but basically I agree with you, I just think you misunderstood the premise of my comments.
