Re: Boot Rattle on GT Blackline
My car has a long history with the dreaded rattle. It's all fixed now, but during the investigation phase, I indulged in a spot of re-engineering.
I stripped out all of the boot trim to try and track down the problem. I ended up using over 100 cable ties to fasten all of the loose wire in place so that they couldn't rattle. I found several "spare" nuts and bolts that some nice person on the Alfa assembly line had left for me and I re-fitted the BOSE system as it was missing several fixings and moved about all over the place. The amplifier mounting is very bad and allows the base box to knock on it, some felt wadding fixed this. The bumper was loose too, with a couple of the internal hard to get at fixings just finger tight.
Under the car, there were lots of loose wires and other tubes, cables and trim. I fixed the whole lot back in place with self tappers and cable ties. I adjusted the boot hinges and the bump stops to pre load the tailgate and squirted some silicone on the rubbers.
All of this work took a whole day, my neighbours thought I was bonkers stripping a new car, but there is no way in the world you would get a dealer to do it as it is a non standard fix but it made a huge difference, just leaving the single structural knock, but thats another story.
